Reading

Text Features Help Readers Understand Non-fiction Text
We'll continue to practice finding key details and the central message in stories. Students are also learning to identify text features in non-fiction books, such as the heading, subheading, caption, glossary, index, bold faced type, etc. This week we'll also explore cause-effect relationships in a text.

The Cause = Why did it happen?
The Effect= What happened?

Writing
Students are learning to use sensory details to create images for their readers. Students created poems featuring color words: Color Poems (Go to link).
This week students will create a short write, featuring a special memory. They will introduce the setting and characters, tell what happened, and tell the ending with a final thought.

Social Studies
Where in the world do we live? We've been learning about our community. Ask your child to identify where they live, beginning with our Planet Earth, Hemisphere, Continent, Country, State, City, and Neighborhood.
