A few photos from our DOWNTOWN FIELD TRIP

What a wonderful trip we had to Downtown Portland.  Students were so enthusiastic when they began seeing buildings, bridges, and streets that they had learned about in the classroom the past couple weeks.  Here are some photos that were taken:

Students meeting with a knowledgeable lieutenant at the fire station.

Students feeling the wall of the fire station.  When the sun shines through the stained glass and reflects on this wall it resembles fire!  Unfortunately, we didn't have much sun to check it out but we were so thankful for no rain during our walking tour!

Students peering down into a Shanghai Tunnel.

A group of students learning many historical facts from our wonderful tour guides!
Before indoor electricity was available, early buildings were built with tall doorways to let in light.

The first "fire engine" powered by white horses so they could be seen at night.

The first firefighters in Portland were all volunteers.

Can you spot the elk?

This building has 13 chimneys to keep the rooms warm in the early days.
